Cats Clocking Out for Labor Day and Showing Us Exactly How a Three-Day Weekend Should Be Done

Nothing feels better than a long weekend after another exhausting week of being employed by absolutely nobody.

Labor Day weekend is finally here, which means hardworking hoomans everywhere get a much-needed break from emails, meetings, commutes, and pretending to look busy until 5 PM. Cats, naturally, will also be taking the weekend off. From what, exactly? We're still trying to figure that out.

Being a full-time feline is apparently exhausting work. There are sunbeams to nap in, cardboard boxes to inspect, countertops to patrol, and hoomans who require constant supervision. Someone has to make sure dinner arrives on time, and that responsibility certainly isn't going to handle itself.

So this Labor Day weekend, cats are doing what they do best: absolutely nothing.

While their pawrents celebrate a few precious days away from work, these unemployed little freeloaders will be joining the festivities like they've been clocking 40-hour weeks all year. Expect plenty of sleeping in, afternoon naps to recover from sleeping in, and maybe a trip to the kitchen for a well-earned snack. It's called work-life balance, look it up.

Of course, cats have perfected the long weekend lifestyle. No alarms. No deadlines. No Sunday scaries. Their biggest Monday concern is whether to move from the couch to the bed or squeeze in another nap before dinner. Frankly, we could learn something from them.

The only labor happening around here belongs to the hoomans opening treat bags, scooping litter boxes, and moving approximately three inches over on the couch because His Royal Floofiness needs more room.

So kick back, ignore that inbox, and enjoy these hardworking kitties taking a well-deserved break from their grueling careers in napping, snacking, and knocking things off tables.

Let’s be real, every day is basically Labor Day for cats. No alarm clocks, no commutes, no meetings, and definitely no deadlines. Their entire schedule consists of naps, snacks, staring out the window, and occasionally knocking something off the counter just to stay busy. Meanwhile, their hoomans are working hard to keep the treats coming and the food bowls full. Cats really figured out the system. Why work for a living when you can simply be adorable and have everything handed to you?

Most of us are probably using that extra day off exactly how it was intended: catching up on some much-needed sleep. After a long week of early alarms and not nearly enough rest, getting to stay curled up in bed for a few extra hours sounds pretty purrfect. The cats, of course, are happy to join in, although we’re not sure what they’re recovering from. Somehow, sleeping 16 hours a day still leaves them exhausted enough to need a long weekend too.

Mondays are usually the enemy, but this one is suddenly looking a whole lot better now that there’s no work involved. No alarm going off way too early, no dragging yourself out the door, and no staring at the clock wondering how it’s somehow only 10 AM. This is the kind of Monday we can actually get behind.
